Glass/Metal/Wood/Laminate/Marble? Round/Square/Oval/Rectangle? Small/Large? When choosing a new coffee table, the options are endless and at times can be overwhelming! These tips will help you break down the process of which coffee table is best for you.
- Before buying a table, mark out a template of the table on your flooring with masking tape so you can see the scale of the piece in your room and how it affects the surrounding furniture and movement flow around the furniture
- If you donβt want the coffee table to be the focus of the room, choose one with a clear glass top, this will help blend in more in the room and keep the eye interested on all items in your room.
- If you do want the coffee table to be the focus of the room, keep the rest of the items in your room to a minimum or toned down so that the eye is drawn to the coffee table.
- If you have toddlers or a small space, consider the edging on your coffee tables. Square sharp edges can cause some painful bumps and bruises! Opt instead for round coffee tables or tops that are inset or have rounded edges.
- Do you need storage in your coffee Table for storing lounge room books, photo albums, magazines? Consider choosing one with a magazine rack or a coffee cupboard.
- Will you need to move your coffee table often to free up space in your room? Consider getting a coffee table that is light or one on wheels for easy manoeuvrability.
- Think about the shapes of the rest of the furniture in your room. Long sofas could handle a rectangular or oval coffee table. Large modular sofas can handle square or round coffee tables. You might also consider a round coffee table if you have harsh, sharp lines in your room and you’re trying to soften the shape up.
- If you have a very small room, you might want to think about using a side table or lamp table instead as a coffee table
